We started Rock Advertising because we believe that an all-in-one video advertising solution should be affordable to all local businesses.
The story of our entrepreneurial spirit can be traced all the way back to the early 1970’s and continued through to the 1990’s. What a valuable learning experience it was to sweep floors and take the trash out at our family business. Gaile’s Galley may have been just small town pizza & sub shop located in the Seacoast NH area, but it’s where our business seeds were planted. The work ethic instilled all those years ago doing odd jobs made its way into the DNA of our agency.
The Hanscom family-owned shop (grandparents & parents) were a part of the local community for decades. It’s an often told story about how a small business provides the means to live out the American dream.
Gaile’s Galley was located on the beautiful plains in downtown Kingston, NH. As the years went on Gaile’s Galley became a local gathering place to grab a bite and have a few laughs. The food was amazing, but it was the laughs which kept people coming back.
Lesson #1 – don’t take yourself too seriously.
An interesting thing began to happen. Gaile’s Galley evolved over time to incorporate the personalities of its owners in its advertising. It became apparent that the fun personalities of its owners (Bob & Gaile) were a large part of the draw to their shop. It made sense use of their likeness to help promote the business. Soon caricatures of their expressive faces were drawn in black and white with funny facial expressions. This theme was used on food menus and other advertising materials. Everything revolved around the owners projecting a warm and fun environment to visit. You could pick up a pizza and sub too!
As the years went on Gaile’s Galley became an old friend in the community.
Lesson #2 – listen to a business and it will tell you what it wants to be.
Gaile’s Galley was consistent with their advertising through the years. It worked because it was simple. They tweaked it here and there. But, they stayed true to their story and did not stop advertising.
What benefits did they reap from consistently advertising their simple story? The customers knew who they were, what they offered and knew they’d have a great experience. Who doesn’t like great food with a smile on your face? As a matter of fact – one of the tag lines in their advertising mentioned smiles because it was an important part of the customer experience at Gaile’s Galley.
“She smiles for miles..”
Lesson #3 – keep it simple and consistent.
Eventually, Gaile’s Galley was sold and a comfortable retirement was deservingly enjoyed.
Today, descendants of the Hanscom family (Murphy and Kramer) are keeping the flame burning with Rock Advertising.
We’d love to learn about your business – let’s talk about your story.
